Chapter 4: The Entrance Exam – Obstacle Course Battle
Location: U.A. High School – Training Ground
The sun hung high in the sky as the students gathered before the Training Ground. Their expressions were a mix of nerves, excitement, and determination. The Entrance Exam was far from over, and the next part would test their quirk abilities in a way that wasn’t possible in the theoretical portion.
Aizawa, their instructor, stood before them, his eyes as cold and calculating as always. He said nothing for a moment, just staring at them. The students shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.
“This is the second part of your exam,” he began in his usual flat tone. “You will face an obstacle course designed to test your quirk usage and your physical abilities. You’ll face a series of obstacles meant to challenge you, so don’t hold back. If you fail, you’re out. Simple as that.”
The students were quiet, absorbing his words. Failure wasn’t an option. But that didn’t make the upcoming test any less daunting.
“Start when I say,” Aizawa continued, his gaze sweeping over them before turning to the side to look at the course. “You’ll run in the order I assign you. Remember—this isn’t just about getting through the obstacles. It’s about showing me how you can use your quirk in a practical situation. Think on your feet.”
The students nodded, mentally preparing themselves. The obstacles ahead were intimidating. The course was filled with moving platforms, high walls, pits, and targets that fired at random intervals. It was going to be a serious test of their abilities.
“Begin!” Aizawa shouted, his voice cutting through the silence.
The first student to take off was Bakugo. His movements were explosive, just like his quirk. He blasted forward, creating huge explosions beneath his feet to propel himself through the course at a blistering pace. His aggressive style tore through obstacles in his path, and he showed no signs of hesitation as he moved.
“Tch, too easy,” Bakugo muttered under his breath as he sped past each challenge. He blew through walls, leaped over pits, and made his way through the maze of obstacles, never slowing down. He kept his eyes on the finish line, determined to crush it with ease.
Aizawa watched silently, but there was no sign of approval or criticism on his face. “You can’t rest on your laurels,” he thought, but his gaze didn’t change.
Next, Todoroki stepped up. He stood still for a moment, his cold expression unchanged. Without any hesitation, he raised his left hand, summoning a massive wall of ice that spread across the course, forming an icy path. With a smooth motion, he glided over the obstacles, using his ice to maintain his speed and control. When necessary, he switched to his fire side, propelling himself forward with bursts of intense heat.
He moved effortlessly, as if the course was no challenge to him at all. His mastery over both his ice and fire was on full display, and Aizawa didn’t comment, his eyes still locked on the course, following every movement.
Then it was Izuku’s turn. His heart raced as he stepped forward, the pressure of the exam weighing on him. He had to make it through. He had no choice.
The signal sounded, and Izuku immediately pushed forward. He summoned the wind sword, the wind cutting through the air as he used it to boost his speed. He leaped toward the first obstacle, using his wind to push himself higher. He barely made it over the first wall, stumbling slightly on the landing but catching himself before falling.
The wind sword was harder to control than he had anticipated. Gusts of wind pushed him forward, but they were unpredictable, sometimes too strong or too weak. He jumped, ran, and deflected flying targets with quick blasts of wind. He wasn’t as graceful as Todoroki or as powerful as Bakugo, but he wasn’t going to give up.
He kept pushing forward, each obstacle a new challenge, each gust of wind a chance to improve. Despite the struggles, he refused to stop. The wind sword cut through the air, and with each passing second, Izuku’s confidence grew.
As the students made their way through the course, Aizawa kept his eyes on them, his expression as unreadable as ever. He didn’t offer praise, and he didn’t scold anyone either. He simply watched them, analyzing their actions and quirks in silence.
When all the students had finished the course, they gathered together, catching their breath. Bakugo crossed his arms and scowled, impatient with the wait. Todoroki remained silent, his eyes distant, clearly not interested in the outcome. Izuku stood with his hands on his knees, trying to recover from the physical strain of the course.
Aizawa stepped forward, his eyes scanning the students. He said nothing for a moment, taking in their performances. The students felt the weight of his silence, but none dared to speak.
Finally, Aizawa spoke.
“Well done,” he said, his voice flat. “But don’t get cocky. You’ve shown your abilities, but this is just the beginning. There’s much more to come. This exam is not just about physical ability—it’s about using your quirks in the real world. Don’t forget that.”
Izuku nodded, sweat dripping from his brow, his body aching. He had made it through the test, but he knew it was only the first step on his journey to becoming a hero. There would be much more to face, and he would need to be stronger than ever before.
Aizawa looked over them one last time.
“You’re all here because you have potential. But remember this: Your quirks aren’t a guarantee of success. If you don’t keep improving, you won’t make it. Understand?”
The class nodded, each student taking the lesson to heart.
“Good. You’re dismissed,” Aizawa said, turning to leave. “Rest up. Tomorrow’s another test.”
The students scattered, each lost in their thoughts, but one thing was clear—this was just the beginning.
